Young Singer of Mann 2025

  • The competition is open to all young singers living on the Isle of Man.
  • Entry into the junior or senior category is based on the singer’s age on the competition date, Saturday 25th January 2025. 
  • All applications must be received by 4pm Friday 13th December 2024.

Competition dates

  • Saturday 25th January 2025 (juniors age 7-12)
  • Sunday 26th January 2025 (seniors age 13-18) 
  • Competitions on both days will start at 2pm. Singers should arrive at the venue between 1pm and 1.15pm to register.
  • Performers do not need to buy a ticket, but friends & family coming along to watch and support should buy a ticket in advance: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/erinartscentre

Piano accompanist

  • Madeline Kelly 
  • Singers must provide a copy of their sheet music (for accompanied songs) to our official accompanist by Friday 13th December at the latest (postal address 28 Market Street, Peel IM5 1AE).
  • Singers must contact our accompanist by text on 07624 465168 to arrange a rehearsal at their own expense. 

Performance

  • All genres are welcome, but singers must perform 2 songs of noticeably contrasting styles (contrasting by date of composition, genre, pace or language).
  • Overall performance should not exceed 8 minutes. 
  • All singers must perform from memory with no prompts or sheet music.
  • Either one or both of the songs must be accompanied by our official accompanist on piano.
  • One of the songs can be performed unaccompanied if desired, but no other accompanists can be included in the performance. 
  • All singers must provide an original copy of their sheet music for the adjudicators to use on competition day.
  • Please note – no filming or photography of any kind is allowed during the event.

The adjudicators will be looking for the following qualities from competitors

  • Musicality: Musical sensitivity and expressive power, plus the ability to interpret a song with an appropriate sense of stvle
  • Performance: The way in which the competitor communicates their performance – how they stand, sit or interact with the audience.

Trophies / Prize money

  • The adjudicators will decide winners based on their performance in the competition and these will be announced on the day. 
  • The winners of the junior and senior categories will each receive an individual trophy to keep, a larger trophy to hold for 1 year, plus a £150 cash prize.
  • Second place winners in each category will receive a £100 cash prize.
  • Third place winners in each category will receive a £50 cash prize.
  • All performers will receive a personalised certificate.
