In 1961, 19-year-old Bob Dylan breezes into New York with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music. Forming his most intimate relationships during his rise to fame, he grows restless with the folk movement, making a controversial choice that is both his musical crucifixion and his rebirth.
Timothy Chalamet gives a hilarious and seductive performance as the shapeshifting troubadour, strongly supported by Elle Fanning as first girlfriend Sylvie Russo and Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez. James Mangold’s direction is unfussy and fluid, weaving Dylan’s music into the fabric of the storytelling instead of simply using it as a soundtrack like so many biopics.
This is the real deal!
