As the long, cold nights draw in it, we’re hanging onto that spooky Hop Tu naa feeling as long as we can. Yes folks, 36 years after the original, Beetlejuice is back! This follow-up to the classic supernatural comedy is a gleefully zany farce packed with knock-out punchlines and great practical effects.

After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the demonic sleazeball returns to unleash his special brand of mayhem.

Beetlejuice was a pivotal picture for director Tim Burton. It established his kooky, gothic blueprint and cemented collaborative relationships, in front of and behind the camera. These old acquaintances (Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Danny Elfman) are all on fine form, whilst Jenna “Wednesday” Ortega is in her element in this delightful return to oddball creepiness.
