Friday Film Club shuts up for the summer, leaving you with this sun flecked beauty.
Charlotte Wells makes a formidable debut as writer/director of this stunning, coming-of-age drama. Set in the late 1990s, the film follows Sophie (Frankie Corio), an 11-year-old girl on holiday with her father Calum (Paul Mescal), at a Turkish resort, on the eve of his 31st birthday. As the world of adolescence creeps into her consciousness, Calum struggles under the weight of life outside of fatherhood.
Celia Rowlson-Hall playing Sophie as an adult, reflects on the rare time spent with the loving and idealistic Calum and her recollections become a powerful and heartrending portrait of their relationship, as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn’t.
Subtle, beautifully shot and with exquisite performances from Mescal and Corio, this is a summer must see!
